We collaborated with Margaret Nyamumbo of Kahawa 1893 for the Spring 2022 Spice Club to create an African Spice Coffee blend inspired by a traditional Kenyan coffee drink known as "Kahawa Chungu," which is a spiced coffee enjoyed black or with sugar and milk.
For this beautifully balanced spiced coffee, Kahawa 1893's freshly ground medium roast coffee is blended with our cinnamon verum, cardamom seeds and cloves sourced directly from smallholder farmers in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. Cinnamon verum brings notes of brown sugar and orange peel to the blend, cardamom brings haunting sweetness and clove’s spicy warmth rounds out the blend.
Brew this coffee as desired and add milk of your choice for a warming beverage in the morning, or try it as a cold brew over ice with an orange twist for an afternoon pick-me-up! Not into a cuppa? No problem! This coffee makes a fabulously rich addition to brownies, chocolate cakes and meat rubs (try it on steak, trust us).

An all around delight
One of the best new coffee‘s I’ve tried this year. The spice is well balanced and assertive but not overpowering with a smooth finish. Delicious hot or cold!
Add this to your morning ritual!
Enjoyable coffee with just the right amount of spice to give it excellent flavor. No need for cream or sugar with this one!
Really great for cold brew
I’m not normally a flavored coffee person but for some reason was intrigued by this one and decided to give it a try. I do think the spice blend was really well done - just enough and not too much. It was a nice change of pace from my usual coffee but I didn’t love it enough to purchase again.
Smooth and balanced
I thought I was a dyed-in-the-wool dark roast coffee drinker, but this medium roast was so pleasant, enhanced by a perfectly balanced spice combination. Thank you, B&B Spice Club, for introducing me to Kahawa 1893!
