We've been big fans of BRINS Jam & Marmalade for a long time. So when Candice Ross, the founder, reached out about our saffron, we knew it was going to be good.
Thin sliced California Lisbon lemons are slowly simmered with our Herati Saffron to make this delightful marmalade. Each jar uses less sugar than typical marmalade, zero preservatives, and fresh fruit.
- Origin: California, USA
- Process: Lemons are sliced and simmered
- Ingredients: Lemons (lemon juice, lemon peel), cane sugar, filtered water, pectin, sea salt, saffron
BRINS Jam & Marmalade was started in a tiny Brooklyn kitchen, making preserves out of the abundant care packages of backyard citrus and herbs sent from back home in Louisiana.
Candice drew inspiration for this marmalade from her time traveling through and working in the UAE and Qatar. The flavors were so bold, complex & subtle all at the same time.
Saffron was very abundant in the night souks. She was so struck seeing shops filled with heaps of saffron, and realizing she'd never fully understood spices before. She wanted to create a marmalade to complement the rice and meat dishes that she'd eaten while she was there.

this jar holds a lovely melange of 2 flavors: the lemon is there as essential, zest without pucker. The saffron is deep, pure and totally integrated with the citrus. The fragrance is enticing, the consistency soft and spreadable yet still a gel integrity. The flavor blossoms on the tongue with complex undertones and is blessed with avoiding an excess of sugar. Brings joy to nectarines, earl grey tea, toast and my chicken and rice pilaf with dried apricot. Jar is too small.
absolutely special stuff used it to glaze a grilled chilean seabass dish
The recipient of this fruity gift was taken by its deliciousness. What more could one ask???
The Lemon Saffron Marmalade I received from Burlap and Barrel is far superior to any supermaket product. Every aspect from packaging to the all important taste is outstanding. Delicious.
Delicious with a perfect balance of tart and sweet. Delicate and light on the tongue, rich and tasty at the same time. Makes morning tea/coffee/cappuccino a special moment.
