Arabiyya

Arabiyya is the brand-new, highly anticipated cookbook from our longtime friend and collaborator Chef Reem Assil. It's a collection of 100+ bright, bold recipes that celebrate the aromas, flavors and welcoming spirit of Arab food, and it shines with personal essays from Reem that showcase her Palestinian and Syrian roots, with California influences. There are fabulous recipes for flatbreads, dips, snacks and family meals, with gorgeous photography that welcomes you to the table.

We've been friends with Reem since we started our respective businesses a few months apart, and we are big fans of her revolutionary bakery and restaurant in San Francisco. Our companies are both activist enterprises, where the commercial aspects are in service of more ambitious goals of building a new kind of business rooted in community, equity and transparency, locally and globally. Reem writes passionately in Arabiyya about the power of Arab communities to turn hardship into brilliant, nourishing meals, and she delves into her life in California, where she has worked to define hospitality at all levels. Arabiyya is delectable food, and also food for thought about what it takes to create a more equitable society, where workers and people often at the margins are brought to the center.
