Our High Curcumin Turmeric is grown by a cooperative of organic farmers in Nicaragua. At 7.9% curcumin, this is the highest curcumin content we've ever seen, almost double other well-sourced turmerics. Washed in cold water, unpeeled and sun-dried, it has a rich, sweet flavor perfect for teas, desserts and savory dishes. Add whole slices to grains and rice, beans, and stews, make tea with hot water or milk, or blend into smoothies.

SOURCING

Turmeric is a relatively new crop for Nicaragua, where it helps to improve the livelihood of the local farmers as a higher value crop than their main export: coffee. It turns out that turmeric is very happy in the rich volcanic soil and the mountainous terrain.

Our turmeric is grown by a group of farmers in Nicaragua that allow their plants to grow for 2 years before each harvest, rather than the typical 6-12 months. Each plant can yield a shocking 10lbs of fresh turmeric, and the extended ripening period kicks the curcumin levels waaay up.

Meet the FarmerCelia and Gonzalo Davila (and their friendly assistant Sultan.) Doña Celia is one of the most experienced turmeric farmers in Nicaragua, and until recently was the Vice President of a cooperative of 800 other farmers. Her turmeric plants were massive, the largest we've ever seen, and she prefers to let them grow for 2 years before she harvests. Each plant can yield a shocking 10lbs of fresh turmeric.
