This tangy, nuanced barbecue sauce is rich with fruit and savory flavors and is a natural over chicken, tofu, and grilled eggplant. The recipe was developed by our partners in Guatemala who produce the black garlic.
Ingredients

¼ cup neutral oil

1 onion, chopped

8 oz fresh tomatoes, fresh or canned

½ cup blackberries

½ cup Panela Cane Sugar or brown sugar

2 Tbsp Black Garlic

1 tsp dried thyme
-
2 tsp salt

2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar

2 Tbsp water or stock

¼ tsp ground Pemba Cloves

1 tsp ground black pepper
Directions
In a pot, combine all the ingredients and cook over low heat, covered, for 30 min. When it has cooled, blend to a semi-thick sauce.
