Simple Spiced Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought) save scraps for braided edge

  • 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (about 5–6 medium)

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • 2 Tbsp flour

  • 1 tsp Royal Cinnamon

  • ½ tsp Ground Grenada Gold Nutmeg

  • ½ tsp Sweet Allspice

  • ¼ tsp Ground Cloud Forest Cardamom

  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice

  • ½ cup flour

  • ½ cup Panela Sugar

  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

  • Pinch of salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.

  2. Toss apples with sugar, flour, spices and lemon juice. Spoon into prepared pie crust.

  3. In a separate bowl, rub flour, brown sugar, butter and salt together with your fingertips until large crumbs form. Scatter evenly over apples.

  4. Optional: roll an extra strip of dough and braid it, then gently press it along the outer edge of the crust for a decorative border.

  5. Bake 15 minutes at 425°F, then lower heat to 350°F and bake 35–40 minutes more, until the crumble is golden and the filling bubbles.

  6. Cool at least 1 hour before slicing.
