You asked for great sesame seeds, so we scoured the globe for the best we could find! Our raw, unhulled sesame seeds hail from the cradle of sesame agriculture in Turkey, where a unique climate lends them their beautiful golden color and distinctive nutty aroma. Sprinkle them over noodles and rice, mix them into salad dressings and add them as a fragrant finishing touch to stir fries. They lend a deep natural sweetness and satisfying crunch to everything they touch.
These Sultan Sesame Seeds are grown from heirloom plants that thrive in rich soil, in a region home to a historic sultan’s fortress called Kal'a-i Sultaniye. Nature and nurture have combined to give them an exceptionally high sesame oil content—that’s the volatile compound that makes them so nutty and rewarding to nibble on. You can grind them into terrific tahini or simply toast them to bring out more of their flavor. And of course, top them on anything that goes into the oven, whether sweet or savory. These seeds belong on all your breads, cookies, cakes and pastries.

Sourcing

The Kaz Mountains region of Çanakkale is positioned along the “Golden Belt” of the 40th parallel that also runs through superior agricultural zones such as California, Italy and Spain. The warm days and cool nights there make ideal conditions for growing these sesame seeds with a measurable difference; depending on the harvest, the seeds can contain as much as 46% more sesame oil than the average crop.
Our partner farmers have been growing sesame seeds in Çanakkale since 2023. Every stage of their farming and refining is done by hand, from harvesting the seeds to drying them in the sun and finishing them over wood fires. These manual methods preserve the seeds’ delicate flavors with none of the bleaching or mechanical separation that degrades their quality. With only one harvest per year, the seeds absorb more nutrients from the soil without overtaxing it, so it can provide for future growing seasons. It was these sustainable growing methods, coupled with Çanakkale’s special geography and climate, that led us to source from this region.
