Sourcing

Hand holding a red rose amidst green foliage. Damask Rose Petal Power from Burlap & Barrel

Our rose petals come from smallholder farmers in the Aonla region of Uttar Pradesh, India, through our partner company Pavitramenthe. Founded by Nihal in 2015, Pavitramenthe grew out of his earlier work with Dr. Bronner’s, where he began by helping Indian farmers sell organic mint. After years as a field officer supporting regenerative practices, he built a farmer-centered company focused on direct sourcing and long-term relationships.

Nihal began farming organically in 2002 and gradually worked with neighboring farmers to transition their land as well. Today, Pavitramenthe partners with thousands of farmers across northern India β€” about 3,500 in the Bareilly region and 2,800 in Pali, Rajasthan β€” with a 100% buy-back model that guarantees farmers a market for their crops. The company invests in training, materials, medical care and social support programs designed around farmers’ needs.

The rose petals are grown regeneratively, hand-picked at peak bloom and dried slowly to preserve their aroma and color.
