Why Burlap & Barrel?

  • Single origin spices sourced directly from small farms
  • Over 10,000 5-star reviews

Anjali's Chai Masala and Ma's Haldi Doodh Masala bring the beautifully fragrant flavors of warming drinks to your kitchen. They are made by Anjali Bhargava, using our single origin spices and her family recipes.

Ma's Haldi Doodh Masala is new! Anjali explains its story: "This golden milk mix celebrates the millennia-old, go-to remedy of Indian moms (haldi doodh, or turmeric milk) and was inspired by my own mother, Usha Bhargava. Using Burlap & Barrel’s single origin spices and following Usha’s traditional yet unique recipe, Ma’s Haldi Doodh Masala provides a spirited and flavorful blend specifically crafted to mix with any milk." We love it as a nightcap, or even stirred into yogurt marinades.

Fan-favorite Chai Masala is made from "Fragrant cloud forest cardamom, Herati saffron, Pemba cloves, buffalo ginger, cinnamon verum and rich Hawaiian turmeric, which all come together to make an exceptional blend that can be added to a hot cup of black tea, sprinkled into a smoothie or folded into any of your favorite doughs and batters." We also find ourselves stirring it into oatmeal and porridge for a fragrant morning treat.

Chai masala: Ginger, cardamom, Resilience Hawaiian turmeric, cinnamon verum, cloves, fennel, black peppercorns, saffron

Haldi doodh masala: New harvest turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cloves, royal cinnamon, black peppercorns, nutmeg

Cooking tips

  • For a perfect cup of masala chai, add 1/4 teaspoon of Chai Masala to 1 cup of boiling water, plus your favorite black tea and a splash of dairy or plant milk. Let steep for 3-5 minutes, and sweeten to taste.
  • For a perfect cup of golden milk, heat 6 oz of milk with 2 oz of water, (adjust ratio as desired) stir in 1 level tsp of Ma's Haldi Doodh Masala and sweeten to taste. Sip slowly, enjoy fully. Drink up to once daily.

We first met Anjali Bhargava several years ago at an event for startup food company founders in 2017 and got to try her beautiful turmeric-based drinks.

Anjali's been tinkering with her family's chai masala recipe since she was old enough to stand over the stove. We collaborated on a version that combines the Hawaiian turmeric that Anjali sources for her drinks with our spices, including a good helping of saffron, and the result was magical. We followed up with her spectactular haldi doodh masala a few years later.

Anjali's Cup's mission is to empower you to make every day better with healthy and delicious products that are easy to enjoy. Careful sourcing, minimal processing and the alchemy of well-balanced ingredients are integral to everything they do.
