Our rich Sweet Allspice grows in cloud forests of Guatemala. Its warming, nuanced flavor is reminiscent of toasted almonds and baked fruitAllspice is the dried berry of a beautiful evergreen tree, and one of the few classic spices indigenous to the new world. Used widely in Caribbean and Mexican cuisines, its characteristic combination of sugar and spice is a key element of jerk chicken, mole sauces and many other dishes. It’s a perfect addition to spiced holiday desserts like pumpkin or apple pie; it adds depth and complexity to beverages like cocktails, chai masala or hot chocolate; and it even works well with meat dishes like chili and Bolognese.

We get our sweet, rich allspice in micro-lots from the cloud forests of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. Our allspice is hand-harvested every October and November and dried. They’re grown on small plots in the cloud forests, where the altitude, high humidity and comparatively low temperatures create ideal conditions for beautiful allspice berries.

Unexpected

There's a little sweetness to this and I find myself adding it more than I expected. I just added some to rice last night. This and Royal Cinnamon - Gold Standard.

Burlap and Barrel Spices make Great Gifts

I've been using Burlap and Barrel Spices for several years. Every one I've ordered has been terrific. I would recommend them to anyone who wants flavor to be a cut above. This Christmas I sent a gift box to a male friend I haven't seen in three years. He is a baker and his pies are legend. I received a note about his great enjoyment of using the variety of spices I sent for his pie baking. I was not surprised.
